Lots of people would be familiar with ETA Visitor visa. Holders of passports from a number of countries can acquire this visa automatically to enter Australia as tourists for a stay of up to 3 months.
By the way ETA stands for Electronic Travel Authority.
What I’ve realised in my work is that a lot of my own clients think the electronic tourist visa is the only “ETA visa” some one can get. No one really knew about the ETA Business short stay visa. It’s a visa that will help someone who is thinking of starting a business in a Australia to go out to Australia for stays of up to 90 days to conduct market research, attend meetings/negotiations, visit potential business locations etc. For holders of certain passports, for example the UK and Ireland are 2 of those countries on the list, the visa can be easily attained over the internet by doing the following:-
1. Visit the Immigration website http://www.eta.immi.gov.au
2. Have your passport and credit card handly and follow the instructions on the screen
If done successfully, the applicant should obtain a visa which is valid for 12 months with stays of up to 3 months at a time. It can be used for single or multiple entry travel. No visa application charge but there is a service fee of $20 (per applicant).
Please note that the holder of an ETA Business short stay visa is not allowed to work in Australia on this visa, this would be a breach of the visa conditions.

Hi I don’t suppose there is anyway of being in Australia temporarily whilst waiting for your 176 approval AND working? No temporary work permit type visa exists? Thanks for an excellent site.
Hi Annie,
Thanks for the comment. If you mean a visa that will allow you to stay in Australian awaiting a decision and being allowed to work, the only option is the sub class 457 work permit. However your sub class 176 visa application is considered an offshore application so you would need to be out of the country when it was going to be approved.
Kind regards,
Mege Dalton
