New Critical Skills List
<!–[endif]–>
The new CSL shows that that all trades occupations (ASCO Group 4) have been removed except:
- Aircraft Maintenance Engineer – Avionics
<!–[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]–>
<!–[endif]–> - Aircraft Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical
- Electronic Equipment Trades
- Gasfitter
- Wall and Floor Tiler
The new Critical Skills List (CSL) is now on the DIAC website at: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/critical-skills-list.pdf
DIAC is now only processing skilled visa applications that are State or Territory sponsored or applications which the nominated occupation is on the new CSL. This means that all other skilled visa applications are in the processing queue and the wait could be a long one given the reduction in skilled visa quota (14 per cent cut in the 2008-09 permanent skilled migration program intake from 133 500 to 115 000, and expected public service staff cuts including DIAC) and unfavourable economic and employment conditions. It is strategy aimed at prioritising processing so that the Australian government can effectively deal with the current skill shortages and the current economic climate.
Please note that skilled visa applications which are not on the processing priority list can still be lodged.
The news of long delays is not what visa applicants want to hear but it’s the reality of the situation and everyone will have to deal with it.
Kind regards,
Mege Dalton

dear mam,
child care co-ordinator job is not in the critical skill list?
Correct, the occupation of Child care coordinators is not on the CSL.
I have applied my Visa for PR in July-2008, My trade is fitter, how many days more may it take to get PR. and how is sitution now in australia? how or were i can get information about this present global crisis?
Hello Mohammed,
Thank you for your post. Did you apply for a sponsored visa? It is not clear how long processing times are taking at the moment. For some recently lodged applicants of sponsored visa categories the wait is very short with visa approvals coming through in a matter of a few months. For most others however it is quite a long wait. The Australian economy is in decline however the the recession in Australia will be less severe than in many other countries (according to senior economists). The unemployment rate is about 5.4% which is less than what was predicted showing that employers are still hiring.
I would recommend you read some Australian newspapers to gain a better understanding of what is happening over there. Most major papers are now online and very easily accessible.

State newspapers – http://www.news.com.au , http://heraldsun, http://www.weeklytimes.com.au

Hi Mege!
I applied for relative sponsored visa sub class 886 on 1st week of february with occupation accounting. Even after lodging application i re-sat for IELTS again and again and finally got 7.0 or over in each band in first week of june. I have already informed DIAC about it and attached it as well. So do you reckon my application will be prioritized even if it is sub class 886. Or does the application need to be subclass 885 to be on critical skill list.
Thanks
Jitendra
Hi Jitendra,
The skilled occupation of Accountant is on the current Critical skills list. Generally sponsored visas are being priority processed. If you lodged your application in February 2009, have you been asked for meds and pccs yet?
Well done for persevering with the IETLS test!
Kind regards,
Mrs Mege Dalton

Hi Mega.
Thanks for your reply. I frontloaded both my medical and police clearance at the time of lodgin. Haven’t heard anything from the department so far.
So you reckon i will be prirority processed because of being in critical skills list even on subclass 886 visa.
Thanks
Jitendra
Hello Mege,
I was a student of child care studies but had to change my course due to recent migration policy.
Now I am doing fast track MPA with 16 units also I have & in IELTS only thing that worries me is how long this CSL will last without change.
AS I will be finishing by end of 2010,hopefully no new changes will affect me.

I have applied for relative sponsored visa and skill is on CSL. Have Also applied for state sponsorship for WA. Application for visa submitted electronically 29/06/09, state sponsorship requested a month later. If I get state sponsorship do I hold on to it as long as my skill is on CSL or do I submit it. Also do I wait until requested before submitting medicals and police checks. How long for visa if you are on CSL
Hi There,
If i have applied for a 175 visa CSL, can i apply for state sponsorship as well. I have submitted my file on 22 june but nothing has changed and i have not been assigned a case officer or requested medicals. I really want to buy a house but its proving difficult as we are on partners 457. Someone has suggested we apply for state sponsorship as these are taking no more than 3 months and allow our CSL visa continue being processed. Are we able to do that and if so what is the process?
Thank you so much
